‘Selling what I was about to throw out helped towards my renovation costs’

Jessica Cutteridge, from Highgate, London is currently undergoing a major renovation to her home. The problem before starting however was finding the best way to clear the house of items that could be well loved elsewhere but not needed by Jessica in her new revamped modern home and possibly make a bit of money to help towards the costs.
Jessica's hope was to sell as much as she could, including an oven, marble mantle pieces and shelving units. Friends had mentioned to her the specialist eBay company AuctionPeople that help to take the work out of doing it yourself on eBay. As Jessica says “it couldn’t have been easier, eBay sounded the best option but I didn’t have the time or the knowhow to get the best price”.
After a quick phone call, a representative from AuctionPeople visited Jessica’s family home to inspect the items, as well as take photographs and measurements.
This worked brilliantly for Jessica as they also advised when realising that virtually the entire house was being renovated and that quite literally, 'everything must go' that they could also probably find buyers for her wood panelling that adorned an expansive room, as well as the authentic parquet flooring in good condition that lay fitted. Everything was photographed and the items remained insitu, to be collected by successful bidders.
Once back at the AuctionPeople drop-shop the photographs and item details were processed and the listings created on eBay. The items received lots of interest and the best bit for Jessica was not having the worry or time required to handle the queries herself.
As Jessica explains, ‘AuctionPeople handled all the buyer enquiries, processed the payments and oversaw all the collections to ensure I was inconvenienced as little as possible’. Sales exceeded Jessica's expectations with all items, including the oven, flooring, panelling and mantelpieces achieving over £2000.
And as Jessica sums up "I was delighted to make a couple of thousand pounds from items I thought was going to have to scrap, and eco wise I have a clear conscious on everything not just ending up in a land fill".
